  20. Many VAX VMS sites have asked about printer spoolers for
  21. PostScript devices.  Newsletter #10 described how to set up
  22. a spooler suitable for a HP LaserJet (or any similar printer
  23. which primarily needs XON/XOFF flow control support).
  24.  
  25. PostScript printers are more difficult, because they are
  26. rather chatty.  My LW78 works under TOPS-20, and
  27. modifications for Unix have been made at a user site which
  28. has promised to supply me with the changes; as far as I
  29. know, no one has attempted to adapt it to VAX VMS.  In the
  30. meantime, the following news item which appeared on the
  31. INFO-VAX bulletin board this morning promises some good
  32. news.

  34. Besides this one, there is another from Clarkson University,
  35. but it is only available to those with Internet ANONYMOUS

  53. The PSPRINT package is now available via anonymous FTP from node
  54. CLUTX.Clarkson.EDU

  58. pub/vms/FIX_SAVESET.EXE  -- program to fix up saveset after loading it from FTP
  59. pub/vms/PSPRINT.SAV      -- backup saveset of PSPRINT package

  61. You should load it in image mode (in TEK TCP, /TYPE=IMAGE). It is some 1.4MEG.

  82. For the many of you that have been interested in a symbiont for
  83. PostScript printers, my user-written laser symbiont is available on the
  84. latest DECUS tape under [VAX87A.UTEXAS.LASER].
  85.  
  86. LASER is a user-written print symbiont that is tailored specifically to
  87. the Apple LaserWriter.
  88.  
  89. This version of the symbiont is in use at several sites, but should
  90. still be considered to be in "BETA" testing.  It has only been tested
  91. with version 23 of the LaserWriter, but should work with later versions.
  92.  
  93. The symbiont as distributed is configured to print normal text files in
  94. a variety of formats on the laser printer.  Support is also included for
  95. printing PostScript files, MacPaint files, and Zeta plot files.  See
  96. LASER.C for additional capabilities of the symbiont.

  98. It is also available for anonymous ftp from utadnx.cc.utexas.edu:

  100. LASER_BACKUP.BCK - A backup save set that should be transferred 
  101.            in binary,record mode by a site running WIN/TCP.
  102. LASER_SHAR.COM -   A self-unpacking DCL-archive file. (ASCII only)

  104. SPAN nodes may copy the files from UTSPAN::UTADNX""::[FAL]
  105.  
  106. You only need one of the files, the backup save set has everything
  107. already built. (You'll need VAXC if you want to recompile.)

  109. Since this is already being distributed via DECUS, I am not going to 
  110. try posting or mailing the sources.
